From Brenda Laine's private collection, made years ago and kept in storage except to go out occasionally to be featured on display. This fully lined Wool coat features appliqué artwork designed by Indigenous artist, Joyce Little.
In 2001, Brenda Laine taught a 12-week coat-tailoring class at the Tseshaht Band Adult Drop-In Centre in Port Alberni. Indigenous Artist Joyce Little organized the class, and while all the students made coats under Brenda’s tutelage and supervision, they learned from Joyce where to put their designs.
This coat represents friendship, and a collaboration of the two cultures. The garment was constructed entirely by Brenda Laine, and the artwork was created by Joyce Little, who instructed Brenda where to sew the appliqué.
This coat, along with other collaborative creations by Brenda Laine and Joyce Little, was featured in a fashion show at BC Elder’s Conference in Port Alberni in 2006.
